Yahoo to shut down its Games, LiveText app and more

Yahoo has decided to close down its products like LiveText, Yahoo Games, Yahoo Astrology, and more. The search giant has recently announced in a Tumblr post that it will now focus on seven core consumer products: Mail, Search, Tumblr, News, Sports, Finance and Lifestyle.

Yahoo Games site and publishing channel will be discontinued from May 13, 2016. Yahoo explains that it has reached out to game publishers and asked them to develop a transition plan for players in the coming days.

Yahoo Livetext was launched last year, it is a real-time video texting application that allows users to send videos without sound. We plan to incorporate the learnings and features into Yahoo products including Yahoo Messenger, our core messaging platform,” explains Yahoo.

Yahoo will also soon shut down its regional media properties. Yahoo Astrology will close in the UK, France, Germany, Spain and India. Yahoo Maktoob (Arabic

and English) including News, Celebrity, Movies, Style, Helwa, Sports and Weather, will shut down, and the pages will redirect to the Yahoo Maktoob homepages in Arabic and English.

Yahoo has also decided to discontinue BOSS JSON Search API, BOSS Hosted Search, BOSS Placefinder and Placespotter APIs by March 31. This step has been taken to streamline products for Yahoo’s developer community.
