Earlier in 2015, Google announced that mobile-friendliness would become a ranking factor in mobile search results. It launched a mobile friendly algorithm in April 2015. The search engine also said that apps that use app indexing API would see a boost in their ranking.

However, Micheal Fink, the product manager of Google Search Console said at SMX Israel that website owners should not get an app if they intend to get a ranking boost! Instead, they must build an app if they want to provide a user-friendly experience for users.

To allow Google Search to discover your app so that they can serve the deep links in search results. The process of deep links includes steps:

  • Using the App Indexing API or allow Googlebot to access your app
  • Host your links
  • Support Google Search quality guidelines
